2012 Designer Wedding Dress Trends

Vera Wang’s latest collection featured gowns in an array of colors, including celadon, charcoal gray, and several styles in a soft, creamy taupe color. The intricate accordion pleats of the gown flare out like a sunburst as the gown moves—so lovely. And the dramatic ballgown features an asymmetrical peplum—a big trend this season—accented with a soft, oversize fabric flower.

Monique Lhuillier’s Spring 2012 collection features twenty-four new gowns, each more striking than the last. Many styles feature corset bodices and ruffled skirts—a sort of modern, glam princess look. One gown, called “Catherine”, was the designer’s interpretation of what Kate Middleton might wear.

OSCAR DE LA RENTA BRIDAL Spring Summer Collection. (NEW YORK Bridal Market 04/11/11):
Amid Oscar de la Renta’s characteristically exceptional bridal offerings—Chantilly lace sheaths, lavishly ruffled ballgowns, ladylike trumpet silhouettes, and romantic veils—were several ultra-whimsical outliers marked by the sort of details and textures that would appeal to an imaginative young girl decorating the bedroom of her dreams: Cotton candy pink and blue hues, shimmering iridescent sequins, downy-soft white fur, and billowing tulle (for the canopy bed?). The presence of such girlish details plus a recurring lily of the valley motif (the delicate flower is a symbol of innocence) gave the entire collection an air of youthful esprit that will delight brides of all ages.
